Spore Shape

Round like a circle, or nearly circular, will match with 'round', 'nearly round', 'globose', 'subglobose', or 'spherical'
Elliptic like an oblong circle, or somewhat flattened circle, referring to the outline (as opposed to the three dimensional shape) of a spore, according to one set of criteria, ratio of length to width is 1.15-1.60, will match with 'elliptic', 'elliptical', 'ellipsoid', or 'pip-shaped' (the last because many authors use 'elliptic' for spores that look pip-shaped due to hilar appendage); 'narrowly elliptic' will match here even if dimensions are such that they also match with 'oblong'
Oblong elongated with approximately parallel sides; according to one set of criteria, ratio of length to width is 1.6-2: shorter would be elliptic and longer cylindric, will match with 'oblong' or spore dimensions in this range (which may also be referred to as 'narrowly elliptic')
Cylindric of the same diameter throughout its length, longer in relation to width than oblong, according to one set of criteria ratio of length to width 2-3: less would be oblong, more (as in some non-gilled mushrooms) would be bacciliform; cylindric will match with 'cylindric' or 'cylindrical'
Oval like the outline of an egg, will match with 'egg-shaped', 'oval', 'ovate', and 'ovoid'
Spindle spindle-shaped, narrowing from middle to both ends, will match with 'spindle-shaped', 'fusiform' or 'fusoid'
Lance like a lance, many times longer than broad, and tapering, will match with 'lance-shaped' or 'lanceolate'
Angular 4 to 7 sided, with corners or angles, will match with 'angular'
Calyptrate with a hood, the outer layer separating to form a partial envelope or bag around the spores, often with blisters or loose areas, as in some Galerina, will match with 'calyptrate'
Almond with top end broader than base (where hilar appendage located), thus like an almond in shape, will match with 'almond', 'amygdaloid', or 'amygdaliform'
Lemon shaped like a lemon, with rounded narrowings at both ends, will match with 'lemon'
Bean bean-shaped or kidney-shaped, will match with 'bean', 'kidney' or 'reniform'
Sausage sausage-shaped, tubular and slightly curved with rounded ends, will match with 'sausage' or 'allantoid'
Germ Pore a soft spot in the top part of the wall of certain spores, through which the fungus first starts to grow, and which is seen as a gap, sometimes large enough to give a 'truncate' or cut-off appearance, same as apical pore (but not the same as apiculus which is at the base of the spore), will match with 'germ pore' or 'apical pore'
Thick-walled with thick spore walls, will match with 'thick-walled'
Other Shape will match with 'irregular', 'pear-shaped', 'tear-shaped', 'bullet-shaped', 'slipper-shaped', 'beaked', 'with horns' etc

Spore Ornamentation

Smooth with smooth surface, but may have larger irregularities, as in a smooth angular spore, will match with 'smooth'
Rough with rough (including ridged, warty, spiny, nodulose) surface, will match with any of these
Ridged with narrow raised straight or curved strips on the surface of the spore, will match with 'ridge' or 'wrinkled'
Warty with bumpy outgrowth which is small and generally slightly wider than high, will match with 'wart', 'warty', 'verrucose', and 'verruculose'
Spiny with projections that are long and narrow and more or less pointed, will match with 'spine', 'spiny', 'echinate', and 'echinulate'
Nodulose covers with bumps that are larger than warts, will match with 'nodule' or 'nodulose'
Other Surface will match with 'irregular'

Melzer's Reaction of Spores

Amyloid of pale-colored spores, staining bluish to gray to black in Melzer's reagent, or the ornamentation staining like this, will match with 'amyloid'
Dextrinoid of pale-colored spores, staining yellowish brown or reddish brown in Melzer's reagent, same as pseudoamyloid, will match with 'dextrinoid' and 'pseudoamyloid'
Inamyloid of pale-colored spores, remaining clear or becoming yellow in Melzer's reagent, not amyloid or dextrinoid, same as nonamyloid, will match with 'inamyloid' and 'nonamyloid'
